Our Older Children
The sophistication that we see in our older children is an accumulation of 3 or more years of their Montessori education. The developmental phases unfold naturally within them in response to the environment; this leads to a highly competent child, with the skills to transition smoothly into the primary school setting. These skills include:
Children are given the option to complete their Montessori education with us up to the age of 6. This time is spent consolidating all that they have learnt during their time at Haywood Cottage Montessori. Transitioning to Primary school at the beginning of this crucial last year can often mean that valuable concepts and skills learnt are not established and can even be lost. Children staying in a Montessori program from 5 are generally working in a more complex and fulfilling way. This is especially true in the development of vital executive functioning, where a child`s self-management strategies, concentration skills, and ability to empathize are truly established leading to success at primary school and beyond.
